Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) is the world’s largest tech expo conference and is held annually at the Dubai World Trade Center. This annual showcase is an opportunity for technology companies to display their latest products and services.

Since its inception in 1981 in Dubai as GITE, the mega showcase has never been held outside the Middle Eastern country; until now.

During this year’s event, the organizers of the annual tech showcase announced the inauguration of GITEX Africa. This strategic partnership launched in collaboration with the Moroccan Digital Development Agency will hold in Marrakech, Morocco from 31st May to 2nd June 2023

The Moroccan Digital Development Agency is the public strategic entity responsible for implementing the kingdom’s strategic digital development goals. In line with its core function, the agency in September also launched a data-sharing platform between the Moroccan kingdom and Minsait, a Spanish data company. This series of initiatives embarked on by the kingdom of morocco indicates that the leadership considers digital transformation to be a priority.

According to this report, Africa’s digital economy has barely scratched the surface of its potential compared to other regions, especially as the sector is set to grow by sixfold to 712B dollars by 2050. Africa has seen an influx of activity in the tech ecosystem this year. From multinationals like Bloomberg coming to the continent to recruit tech talent, to Google setting up a cloud region in South Africa, it is clear that technology investors believe the hype is real and are taking strides to put their money where their mouth is.

Being that this event will be the first international venture that the GITEX global brand will be venturing into, expectations are high for the novelty that will no doubt accompany this experience. GITEX Africa is set to curate innovations across fast-growing technology sectors like fintech, A.I, and cloud computing.

Considering that GITEX global typically showcases tech communities like startups, investors, global tech execs, coders & developers; its African venture is set to be a platform that would bring the tech African ecosystem to the forefront of a global stage.
