WhatsApp has announced that its users will be able to join calls with a single tap on the app.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature on Facebook, saying that WhatsApp users will be able to share a link to a call with “a single tap.”

The feature will be for both audio and video calls. Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the video calling feature will be encrypted and it is currently being tested for calls with up to 32 people.

Competitor for Microsoft, Google, and Zoom?

With this new feature, WhatsApp is going into the territory of companies of Microsoft and Google which offer their Teams and Meetup applications respectively.

Because WhatsApp largely depends on you signing up with your phone number and is currently big in countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Do popular apps like Zoom have something to worry about?

We’ll see what the ripple effects are if this new WhatsApp feature takes off.
