Happy WiFi Day!
Well, it’s actually on June 20th but nevertheless, happy WiFi Day.
In Ghana, we all know how data and wireless performance can be expensive (and sometimes unreliable). But internet access is a big factor in businesses today and and it can have enormous effect on work productivity. If you’re not connected to the internet today or have your business online, you’ll be missing out.
To celebrate WiFi Day, VAST Networks (VAST) (Africa’s first open access Wi-Fi provider) together with Ruckus, a high performance access network provider, will be giving 1GB of free Wi-Fi to all South Africans on VAST’s network. (!)
That’s a great initiative by the South African company.
On June 20th, South Africans will be able to access their free 1GB of data at any of the more than 2,000 VAST Networks locations, across the country.
Ghanaian Internet Providers, Where Are You?
That was South Africa. What about Ghanaian internet providers? Some telcos in Ghana can tend to be stingy when giving out free data. Usually, access to free data usually comes with a lot of terms and conditions. There are some companies like Vodafone which have been doing promotions and being generous with gifts of free data.
But on June 20th, will any of the telcos be generous with the giveaways of free data like the South Africans? We’ll wait and see.
I certainly hope so.
