Ghana Card Ready To Be Accepted In All Banking Institutions By January 2022

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has completed building its verification platform, to enable all financial institutions to accept the Ghana Card for transactions.

Currently, Calbank, Stanbic Bank and United Bank Of Africa have been accepting the Ghana Card as a form of verification for banking transactions.

All other banks have been given a grace period of up to the end of the year 2021, to build and onboard their systems to the platform and connect all their branches.

Most banks in Ghana currently do not accept the Ghana Card because they had no means of verifying the information on the cards, compared to the others like the voters ID or the driving licence as the database on the Ghana Card had not been established.

The NIA recently successfully undertook a pilot for verification with Calbank for verification of the Ghana Card and all other processes for verification with the bank have been completed.

The NIA also noted that once the Ghana Card has been accepted as an ID for tax transactions, a process to sync with bank transactions will also be completed.
