A couple of weeks ago, there was a report that Surfline Gh and Vodafone were in talks for a 4G partnership. The CEO of Surfline Communication, David Rottmayer, has confirmed that the two entities were in partnership talks about an agreement which would see Vodafone customers enjoy Surfline’s 4G services.
“We have had a joint conversation concerning Surfline providing them (Vodafone) with White Label service thus allowing users (of Vodafone) to partake in our excellent 4G network,” Rottmayer said.
Mr Rottmayer noted that there were a few technical and commercial obstacles which needed to be worked out before getting a green light from the National Communication Authority (NCA).
Mr Rottmayer went on to deny media reports that Vodafone was looking to acquire Surfline as false.
“We are not in a discussion concerning acquisition at this time…the information out there is flawed.”
Surfline laid off 70 of its staff recently, sparking rumours that they were cleaning house to cut costs and possibly be more attractive for an acquisition.
Vodafone has been trying to get into the 4G market to compete with MTN but the price of a 4G LTE has been a barrier.
