Starlink has updated its website to show the price of its Starlink service to Ghana. The company will charge users 770 GHC as a monthly fee to access its service.
Details
The company website also updated its pricing on the Starlink hardware kit which will go for 5,390 GHC for a one-time purchase.
The service plan for Starlink in Ghana includes unlimited data which means users have no data caps on their usage but will be subjected to Starlink’s fair use policy.
Flashback
The National Communications Authority approved Starlink’s license and operations in Ghana last week and stated the company was due to operate at the end of August 2024.
Why This Matters
Given the current state of Ghana’s economy, it looks like Starlink is subsidizing the price of its service even though at the time of this publication, the USD to Ghana Cedi rate is $1 = ~15 GHC. In the US, Starlink kits retail for $499 and $120 as a fee for monthly service.
Starlink founder Elon Musk is known to be aggressive with pricing. Starlink reportedly has started a rental plan in Kenya for users to rent out Starlink kits for customers to quicken penetration in the Kenyan market.
