Starlink, the satellite internet service by SpaceX, has officially launched in Guinea-Bissau — its seventh market in West Africa and 22nd across Africa overall.
Why it matters
With internet penetration in Guinea-Bissau at just 30% as of 2025, Starlink’s entry is expected to significantly boost connectivity in one of West Africa’s least connected nations.
Driving the launch:
- The country’s telecoms regulator, ARN-TIC, granted a provisional licence in December 2024 and final approval in April 2025.
- The move aligns with national goals to accelerate digital inclusion and infrastructure development.
