Amazon Preparing To Launch “Marketplace” In South Africa

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 1 Min Read

Amazon appears to be gearing up to launch an Amazon South African marketplace this year.

Marketplace is Amazon’s e-commerce platform that enables third-party sellers to sell new or used products directly to consumers on a fixed-price online marketplace alongside Amazon’s regular offerings.

Driving The News

According to different reports, Amazon is currently advertising 30 full-time positions in the country, a fair portion of which are marketplace-related.

The online retail giant is looking for a marketplace manager, B-BBEE programme manager, marketing head, ER and HR compliance manager, and several vendor managers.

Digging Deeper

Last year, there was a report that Amazon had plans to expand to new countries in Africa in 2023 including Nigeria and South Africa.

Amazon’s plans included the expansion of its Prime membership program and video service.

In May, it was revealed that Amazon would be having a fulfilment centre in both Johannesburg and Cape Town which would be capable of accepting deep-sea import containers.
