Amazon Prime Video Officially Launches In Nigeria and Announces Its First Local Original Show, “Gangs Of Lagos”

Amazon Prime Video today officially announced that they have launched in the Nigerian marketplace.

In a tweet by the Amazon Prime Nigeria Twitter account, users in Nigeria can stream Amazon Prime Video’s content of movies and TV shows including “The Boys”, “Incredible” and “Reacher”.

Nigerian users will be able to subscribe to the service using their local currency. The service will cost $4 per month or (2,300 Naira). Users can also try a 7-day free trial.

Amazon Prime Video will be in competition with other streaming companies including Netflix and Showmax. The service currently estimated to have about 600,000 subscribers in Africa compared to Netflix’s 3 million.

Gangs of Lagos shot

The service currently has its first Nigerian show called “Gangs of Lagos,” a local original crime action movie that follows three friends’ lives as they navigate the streets of Isale Eko in Lagos. It’s scheduled to be ready for launch later this year.
