Chipper Cash, the African no-fee, cross-border payment startup Chas raised a $2.4 million seed round led by Deciens Capital. The investment round was also joined in by American Football star, Joe Montana.
The company offers a no-fee, Peer to Peer, cross-border mobile-money payments in Africa in countries including Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. The startup hopes to expand to other countries within the next 12 months.
Chipper Cash was accepted in 500 Startups’ Batch 24 in 2018 and their demo day for the accelerator program gained the attention of Liquid 2 Ventures.
In conjunction with their seed round, Chipper Cash is launching Chipper Checkout: a merchant focused, C2B, mobile payments product. The company will use revenue from their Chipper Checkout product to support its no-fee mobile money business.
The company currently has its offices in San Francisco, Nairobi and Ghana. Their mobile app can be found on Google Playstore and the iOS App Store.
