Update: Surfline’s service is back up for all users.

The service for users was reactivated for users on Friday after The National Communications Authority (NCA) has intervened in an impasse between Glo Ghana and Surfline Ghana.

The Director General of the NCA, Mr. Joe Anokye, emphasised the importance of communication services to national development and the need to ensure that consumers are protected even during disputes.

The NCA met with both Glo and Surfline after which the Authority advised both parties, to refer all disputes between them to the NCA for redress and directives for further and external actions if need be.

Original Story:

On Tuesday, Surfline Ghana’s LTE service to customers went down abrutly. Customers receieved word via social media and SMS that Surfline engineers were working on that fixing the problem. But as of today, August 2nd, the problem has still not been rectified.

But according to Pulse Gh and their sources, it seems that Surfline’s service went down due to it’s indebtness to Glo Ghana. A source from Glo Ghana told Pulse that the two entites were engaged in a legal tussle due to the debt owed by Surfline. A court apparently ruled that Glo Ghana should immediately stop providing service to Surfline.

As of Thursday evening, customers were still unable to connect to Surfline’s service. Surfline did send out SMS alerts indicating that Enterprise customers have had their services fully restored and that regular customers would soon be receiving service as well.
Surfline Ghana has been in the news lately after rumors of staff layoffs and a rumored takeover from Vodafone Ghana which turned out to be a partnership deal which hasn’t seen the light of day yet.
