DJI is doing its best to cement the company as the king of consumer drones.

At an event today, DJI introduced a new mini drone which they are calling Spark. The new drone weighs less than a single pound and packs in some powerful features.

DJI’s new mini drone: The Spark

The Spark will have intelligent flight controls and users will be able to use gesture controls to maneuver the drone in any direction they want.

The battery life of the Spark comes in to about 16 minutes of flight time on a single charge. Its camera can capture 1080p video as well as 12 megapixel still photos. The Spark has onboard sensors that allow it to dodge obstacles and its top speed comes to about 31 miles per hour.

I’m not the biggest drone enthusiast but after watching the video for this drone, I might be tempted to actually purchase one. The Spark’s price tag is $499.

Spark is available for sale now on DJI’s website and has an estimated ship date of June 15.
