MultiChoice Ghana, the operator of DStv, has unveiled plans to raise subscription prices across all its packages by an average of 15%, effective April 1, 2025.
The announcement marks the third price adjustment in less than a year, following two increases in 2024 that sparked widespread subscriber backlash.
The Details
The latest hike will affect all DStv tiers, with MultiChoice citing rising operational costs and economic pressures as the driving factors.
New Prices
Package | Current Price | New Price |
Premium | 750 GHC | 865 GHC |
Compact | 330 GHC | 380 GHC |
Compact Plus | 495 GHC | 570 GHC |
Family | 165 GHC | 190 GHC |
Access | 85 GHC | 99 GHC |
DSTV Lite | 50 GHC | 59 GHC |
Consumer Pushback
CUTS International, a consumer advocacy group, has voiced strong concerns over the move. The organization criticized MultiChoice for providing insufficient notice, calling on the company to adopt fairer communication practices and give subscribers ample warning ahead of fee adjustments.
“Short notices erode trust and burden consumers,” a CUTS spokesperson said, urging DStv to rethink its approach.
Why It Matters
The repeated price increases come amid Ghana’s economic challenges, including inflation and currency depreciation, which have already strained household budgets.
With DStv facing growing competition from streaming platforms, the hikes could test subscriber loyalty further.
