Ghana has hit an all-time high in U.S. student enrollments, ranking 18th globally with 9,394 Ghanaians studying in the U.S. during the 2023-2024 academic year, according to the 2024 Open Doors Report.
By the numbers
- A 45.2% increase in Ghanaian students compared to the previous year.
- 6,337 graduate students (54% increase), making Ghana the 9th largest sender of graduate students globally.
- Ghanaian students received nearly $9.2 million in scholarships across more than 680 U.S. institutions.
The big picture
The U.S. remains the top destination for international students, hosting over 1.1 million students in 2023-2024—a 7% increase year-over-year. STEM fields, particularly math and computer science, dominate as the most popular areas of study.
