A report on the survey named the “Ghana Business Tracker Survey” has been released with information about Ghanaian businesses and the impact of the pandemic.
The survey was conducted between April 29 and July 9, 2023, by the Ghana Statistical Service, in collaboration with the World Bank, the European Union (EU), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Methodology
The survey includes 3,157 firms and is the fourth wave of the Business Tracker Survey in Ghana. The third wave was conducted between September 1 and 30, 2021, following up on the second and first rounds conducted between May 26 and June 7, 2020, and August 15 and September 10, 2020, respectively.
Report Highlights
Here are some highlights from the report:
- Sales and Employment: Medium-sized firms in accommodation and food services showed significant sales growth, while employment trends indicated both hiring and layoffs. However, sales figures across firms remain vulnerable due to various economic challenges.
- Digital and Green Practices: There has been an increase in the adoption of digital technologies like mobile money since the pandemic, but the adoption of green practices remains low, with firms citing lack of capacity, information, and funds as main constraints.
- Challenges and Finance: A majority of firms (84%) reported difficulties in accessing finance, primarily due to high-interest rates and repayment risks.
