Accra, Ghana, June 26th, 2025Wahu, the Ghanaian electric vehicle (EV) startup best known for its locally assembled electric bikes, has launched a new mobile application called Wahu Hero.

The app is designed to serve as the central hub for EV riders and EV stakeholders in the EV ecosystem.

Why it matters

Wahu has been steadily gaining traction in West Africa’s mobility space by addressing the demand for affordable and sustainable urban transport.

With Wahu Hero, the company is moving beyond hardware and into the software realm — a critical step toward building a vertically integrated mobility platform.

The details

  • The Wahu Hero app allows users access to a variety of features, including:
    • Make flexible payments for a Wahu Bike
    • Track and manage their Wahu bike usage
    • Access maintenance and support services
  • It also includes a rewards program to incentivize safe riding and consistent use.

Between the lines

By digitizing services and rider engagement, Wahu is also positioning itself to collect critical data — from route optimization to rider behavior — that can inform future policy and urban planning decisions.

Demostration of the Wahu Hero App

Wahu is also working on an open API, which would allow other EV players to plug into its platform.
