Ghana’s Complete Farmer Gets $2.5 Million Boost to Transform Northern Agriculture

2 Min Read

Complete Farmer, a Ghanaian agritech startup, has secured €2.2 million (~$2.5M) in funding from the EU’s AgriFI initiative to build six rural fulfilment centres across five northern regions.

The goal: fix the critical gaps in inputs, storage, and market access that have long kept smallholder farmers locked out of meaningful profits.

Why it matters

For years, small-scale farmers in Ghana’s north have struggled with poor infrastructure, limited access to quality seeds, and no clear pathways to larger markets. Complete Farmer’s new centres—part warehouse, part logistics and quality control hub—aim to change that.

The project will directly support 5,000 farmers and integrate their crops into traceable supply chains with international buyers.

Better infrastructure and digital platforms mean better access to quality seeds, tools, expert advice, and markets,” said Irchad Razaaly, the EU Ambassador to Ghana.

The bigger picture

This investment is part of the EU’s €10 million AgriFI Ghana Country Window, managed by EDFI Management Company. It’s the latest signal that agriculture in Africa isn’t just about yields—it’s about systems.

By the numbers:

  • €2.2M (~$2.5M) in EU-backed financing
  • 6 fulfilment centres planned across 5 northern regions
  • 5,000 smallholder farmers targeted initially
  • 50,000 farmers targeted by 2028
  • $10M previously raised in 2023 for expansion

Zoom out

While many African agritech firms focus on SaaS platforms alone, Complete Farmer is betting that physical infrastructure is just as critical. It’s a play for scale—and impact—across one of West Africa’s toughest markets.

This is a model of inclusive innovation,” said Rodrigo Madrazo García de Lomana, CEO of EDFI. “It’s about reshaping agriculture from the ground up.”

What’s next

With its new funding, Complete Farmer plans to deepen its reach in rural Ghana, laying the foundation for a more competitive, climate-conscious, and equitable agricultural economy—one fulfilment centre at a time.
