Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced an initiative to register Ghanaians living in Canada for the Ghana Card.

Details

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that all Ghanaians, especially in the diaspora, are integrated into the national database.

The registration process in Canada is set to be a pilot program that will test the efficiency and effectiveness of the system before it is rolled out to other countries.

Digging Deeper

The plan involves using Ghanaian missions abroad as registration centers, with mission staff receiving training to handle the registration process. Ghanaians living in Canada would require a birth certificate or a passport to begin registration.

By The Numbers

According to the NIA, Ghana has a total of 18,145,839 citizens registered on its national identity database as of August 20th, 2024.
