Glovo, a food delivery platform in Ghana, has sent emails to its restaurant partners that it will shut down its operations on May 10.

Details

In emails circulating on social media to some of its partners, Glovo stated that it had made the hard decision to shut down its operations due to challenges of profitability in the Ghana market.

Zoom Out

In 2022, Glovo made a €3.5 million investment in Ghana to expand operations in the country.

What Happens Next

In the email to partners, Glovo noted that it will officially suspend acceptance of orders on May 10th at 10:00pm.

Outlook

Glovo’s exit means that it will focus on its other African markets including Morocco, Uganda, Kenya, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria.

The current landscape of food delivery in Ghana is not looking promising with companies like Jumia Food shutting down in 2023 and Bolt Food facing profitability issues in other African markets.

However, players will Hubtel, Menu Finder, and NokNok could fill the void left by Glovo.
