Google Maps Now Has Live Traffic Information In Accra

1 Min Read

It would appear that Google officially (or unofficially) updated their mapping application to include live traffic information in the city of Accra.

With the live traffic feature, Google Maps users will now be able to see how much traffic is in the city before they set off to their destination.

This is a welcome feature as it will allow motorists plan their routes to avoid heavy traffic areas.

How It Works

The Live Traffic on Google Map works by analyzing GPS-determined locations transmitted to Google by a large number of mobile phone users. It calculates the speed of users which enables Google to generate a live traffic map. When a threshold of users in a particular area is noted, the overlay along roads and highways on the Google map changes color.

For heavy traffic areas, the map shows “red”, while yellow and green areas indicate mild and low traffic respectively.

The Google traffic feature can be used on both the browser and mobile devices.
