Government Wants Airbnbs In Ghana To Register To Be Licensed

In a public notice, the Ghana Tourism Authority has stated that Airbnbs must be regularized as hospitality industry players in the Ghanaian market. They stated that Airbnb owners will now have to register and acquire licenses for their accommodations.

The Authority noted that under the Tourism Act 2011, it is mandated to register and license all tourism enterprises and says that Airbnbs fall under this law.

Airbnbs are a popular way for locals and tourists to book rooms, spaces and even entire apartments for short and long stays.

The Tourism authority says Airbnb hosts and other hospitality facilities were issued a deadline of 31st May to regularize their operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) or close their operations.
