This year’s Ghana Tech Summit was largely different from last year.
First, there was the surprise announcement that the event was going to be moved from the Kempinski Hotel to the YMCA Ghana.
The second surprise was that the event would be free to enter.
Although seemingly unorthodox, the organisers decided to pull it off and they largely succeeded in bring visitors and guests from the US and other countries to speak at the event.
Even under the sweltering sun, the event was largely a success as it ran the entire day, well into the evening.
Here are some highlights from the event:
Opening Remarks
The event started with opening remarks from YMCA Ghana as well as Christine Ntim, the host of the Ghana Tech Summit 2019.
The Danish Tech Ambassador to Ghana, Casper Klynge, also gave a keynote address.
Best Presentation Of The Day: Ryan Foland
The best presentation of the day, hands down, went to Ryan Foland, a global keynote speaker and managing partner of influenceTree. Ryan is also the author of “Ditch The Act“, a book about personal branding.
Ryan Foland had the most animated and fun presentation which included some freestyle raps and playful slides about personal branding and being yourself.
Forbes8 Keynote
Tom Davis and Amos Winbush III from Forbes were on stage to talk about Forbes and Forbes8, their “Netflix For Entrepreneurs” online platform. They spoke about content they’re currently creating including a Pitch Show for entrepreneurs.
Forbes8 Pitch Competition
One of the highlights of the summit was the Forbes8 Pitch Competition where entrepreneurs got to pitch your products on stage to the audience. At the end of the pitch, the audience got to vote on which presentation they liked best.
The overall winner was Jaaquet Group, a startup focused on Shea Butter production who was awarded $100,000 worth of AWS credits.
LinkedIn Keynote
The last highlight from the event was from LinkedIn, who spoke about the future of work and how to use the LinkedIn platform effectively for personal branding.
