Influx Of New Suzuki Uber Vehicles Causes Stir In Accra

If you happen to live in the city of Accra, you may have noticed that there are a lot of new vehicles out and about on the roads. Most of these new vehicles are specifically the Suzuki S-Presso cars.

Most of these vehicles are actually new “Uber” vehicles for Uber drivers in a partnership with Moove, the startup which provides vehicle financing for drivers.

But some of these new vehicles are causing a bit of controversy, especially on social media. A social media post showing the crash test of the vehicle with a crash test rating of “0” stars has been making the rounds on social media.

Some Twitter users in Accra have been asking the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) to look into the import of these vehicles.

But Uber has issued a statement about the concerns of safety with the new vehicles and also clarifying that the vehicles on the road are different from the ones in the viral video:

We have noted the concerns of the public with regards to the safety of Suzuki S-presso vehicles. The Suzuki S-presso model in question received a 3-star NCAP rating according to the Automobile Association (AA)’s annual test of safety standards for vehicles. This testing was in place prior to their deployment in Ghana.

Safety is Uber’s top priority. We are committed to innovating in safety and improving safety standards for all our users.” stated Marjorie Saint-Lot, Country Manager, Uber Ghana, and Ivory Coast.

The DVLA hasn’t issued any statements on the new Uber vehicles but its safe to say that this is a non-issue, especially with the vehicles in question being different from what’s on the ground.
