It looks like you might be able to start officially shopping on Instagram in the near future.
Instagram is currently on a standalone app which they will call “IG Shopping“. It will be totally dedicated to shopping and will allow users to browse collections of goods from merchants that they follow and purchase them directly within the app.
In this age of social media, a lot of people for using their social media following to sell to prospective buyers. Right now, there are over 25 million businesses already using Instagram and there are lots of entrepreneurs also taking advantage of the platform to sell their products and services.
With the backing of Facebook, which could leverage tools and data for merchants, Instagram could challenge other online shopping platforms in the market.
Instagram is already testing a shopping feature for some companies which allows users to select items from Instagram pictures which are tagged and buy from the companies’ website.
There’s no word on when the app will come out but it’s currently in development.
