Liberia President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr held a virtual strategic meeting with Elon Musk on Sunday.

In the meeting, Elon expressed his gratitude for the engagement with President Boakai and commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating the engagement.

During the meeting, Mr. Musk emphasized the significance of his Starlink program, a satellite internet constellation operated by Starlink Services, LLC, with coverage of 80 countries, and articulated his support for advancing initiatives related to education and healthcare.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr extended an open invitation to Mr. Musk and his Team to visit Liberia, reaffirming his Government’s dedication to continual engagement and collaboration.

Liberia currently has two main network operators, MTN Liberia (Lonestar Cell MTN) and Orange Liberia as well as the Government Entity Libtelco.

Approximately 75% of the population has mobile access, while internet penetration stands at around 21%.

The Big Picture

Elon’s Starlink program has been expanding to more African countries since it launched services in Nigeria in 2023.

Currently, 11 African countries have operationalised Starlink with more countries set to go live this year.
