Liberians, Sierra Leoneans and Ghanaians all want to "japa"

According to a new Gallup poll, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana are the top African countries with respondents saying they have a high desire to migrate.

Liberia has the highest number with 76% of respondents stating that they want to migrate. This was followed by Sierra Leone (75%) and Ghana (65%)

About The Poll

Gallup’s latest update on adults’ desire to move to another country is based on a question it asks almost annually: “Ideally, if you had the opportunity, would you move permanently to another country, or would you prefer to continue living in this country?

The 2023 figures are based on interviews with nearly 146,000 adults in 142 countries and areas.
