Make A Date With Barcamp Accra 2017 On December 23

Barcamp Accra 2017 is a free networking forum bringing people together for learning, sharing, networking and mentoring in the Greater Accra region and beyond. It takes place on December 23 in at the Association of African Universities HQ in Accra. The theme for this year is “Building the Nation Through Competent Professionals“.

This Barcamp hopes to assemble stakeholders in Accra and beyond to network, build a supportive enterprising community and partner to build together.

The GhanaThink Foundation has successfully organized 80 Barcamps in Ghana as part of its Barcamp Ghana program since 2008. Barcamp Ghana is building a network of change-makers, doers, and entrepreneurs. BarCamp Accra 2017 will be the umpteenth of its kind and it will showcase of entrepreneurs and innovators in Ghana.

Mentor Profiles

Kwame Oppong

Kwame Oppong is a Digital Financial Services (DFS) expert with CGAP, a Financial Inclusion think tank within theWorld Bank Group, and the former General Manager of Mobile Financial Services in Tigo Ghana. He’s a passionate advocate for financial inclusion and consults for several governments, public and private sector institutions globally including Mobile Finance Experts (UK), PwC, World Bank and others. Kwame previously worked with HP – Hewlett Packard Company’s Enterprise Business division and held other positions across in the housing finance, banking and health insurance industries. Kwame has a Bachelors in Business Administration, a Master’s in Business and Executive Education in Financial Inclusion.

Dr. Benjamin Owusu

Dr. Benjamin Owusu is currently working with the UAB – The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and Southern research as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. His research over the years has focused on cancer, cardiovascular and hematological diseases.

He obtained his BSc degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ghana (UG) and served as a Teaching Assistant upon completion. He later moved to the US as a visiting research scholar at Emory University School of Medicine and then joined UAB for his PhD training in Biomedical Sciences.

In addition to research, Benjamin is passionate about STEM education and youth mentoring.

Nana Awere Damoah

Nana Awere Damoah (@NDamoah) holds MSc Chemical Engineering (University of Nottingham), BSc Chemical Engineering (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)) and Postgraduate Diploma in Operations and Supply Chain Management (University of Liverpool).

A Chevening alumnus, Nana is co-founder of Dakpabli & Associates (publishers) and BookNook Book Store (an online bookshop), creative writing lecturer and technical services consultant.

He’s worked with Unilever, PZ Cussons and Wilmar across Africa.

Author of seven books including Nsempiisms, Sebitically Speaking and I Speak of Ghana and curator/editor of My Book of #GHCoats, Nana Awere Damoah won first prize in the Step Magazine National Writing Competition in 1997. Last month, his story October Rush won first prize in the Ama Ata Aidoo Story Writing Category in the GAW Awards.

Richard Nunekpeku

Richard Nunekpeku is the Founder and Chief Farmer of Anyako Farms Ltd – a wholly Ghanaian owned agribusiness with investments into crop and livestock production.

Richard has previously worked at Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, PZ Cussons and Samsung Electronics West Africa where he played critical roles in sales and marketing of company products and initiatives. His passion for community development translated into several CSR initiatives he led at Samsung as the Marketing Manager for Ghana, Cote D’ivoire, Cameroun, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Richard is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, Legon. He holds an MBA (Marketing) and BA in Political Science and Philosophy from the same university. Richard also holds an LLB degree from GIMPA.

He has great passion for entrepreneurship and business development with particular interest in agriculture. His farm runs a social impact module working with small-scale farmers to provide land development, input provision, fertiliser, agrochemical, technical service and

Miishe Addy

Miishe Addy (@MiisheAddy) is an entrepreneur who brings a diverse set of skills to companies, including go-to-market strategy and financial analysis.

In her first business, Miishe built a matchmaking platform for startups and independent consultants. Her team grew the company from zero to nearly 200 marketing and design consultants.

Previously, she negotiated compensation agreements as a business lawyer and developed financial models as a top-ranked analyst for Bain & Company. She earned an honors BA from Harvard University and a JD from Stanford University.

She currently mentors aspiring entrepreneurs at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST Africa) in Accra.

Venus Tawiah

Venus Tawiah is a Digital Management leader, Director of Business Development at Now Available Africa and entrepreneur.

Venus brings people together in the new world of integrated creative, traditional and digital propositions. She shines a light on opportunities for brands, NGO’s, Start-up’s and Influencers.
