It is often said that technology and innovation are meant to make the world a better place. This is precisely what the mNotify brand has achieved since 2012 by bridging the communication gap between African businesses and their customers.
Before the mass adoption of smartphones and social media, two students of KNUST identified a communication gap between the authorities of the institution and its students. Students were missing exams due to changes in venues and examination dates which were only communicated via notice boards. With a large number of the student body and the enormous size of the KNUST campus, the sole use of notice boards proved very ineffective.
The communication gap gave the two students the opportunity to create a platform that would allow information to be quickly sent to all KNUST students. The prototype of the mNotify platform was launched and used as KNUST’s official Student Notification System after three months of testing and development.
The platform enabled school officials to deliver reminders to a specific group of pupils or the full KNUST student body. Some of the use cases of the platform include but are not limited to: Lecturers contacting students about a cancelled class, the Dean of a department reminding students to pay their dues, and the SRC informing students about future holidays or changes in student policy.
With the major success of the Student Notification System, the founders of this amazing platform realized they could apply the notification concept to the African business hemisphere. The platform then transitioned from servicing only KNUST to serving other businesses. The mNotify platform was then adopted by small and medium-sized businesses beyond the KNUST campus. Businesses were able to sign up, upload the contact of their customers and send notices, promos, and discount offer to their customers.
A year after its establishment, the mNotify brand was recognised at the Transform Africa Awards for developing socially transforming IT solutions. The recognition helped the startup sign on a couple of businesses namely Latex Foam, CCC Agape, and many others. 10 years down the line, the brand has a wide range of clients ranging from small and medium-sized businesses to multinationals. To name but a few, GTBank, Prudential Bank, UNICEF, Donewell Insurance, and SendWave are among the clientele base of mNotify.
When asked what he could attribute the success of mNotify to, the co-founder and CEO of mNotify, Ronald Tagoe answered the brand is built around its customers. To ensure their clients are happy, mNotify has excellent customer support that addresses customers’ complaints and customer refunds within minutes. The simplicity of the mNotify portal is another big seller for the company. You do not need to have expert technical knowledge to use the platform. All you need is a database of clients, an account at mNotify, buy an SMS or Automated Voice Messaging package and you are good to go.
The vision for the mNotify brand is to transition into a Customer Engagement Platform that helps businesses reach out to their audience, engage with them, increase their revenues and grow their customer base via inbuilt loyalty programs. The brand is looking to become a one-stop-shop for all things related to customer communications.
A 10-year anniversary is worth celebrating. It marks a decade of progress, a decade of growth, and a decade of transitions. From a Student Notification Platform to a Bulk SMS platform which was later upgraded into a Value-Added Service (VAS) platform, the mNotify brand is poised to expand into other industries. The future is indeed bright for the 10-year-old company.
To celebrate its 10 years anniversary, mNotify is giving out free 50 SMS and 30 minutes voice messages credit to businesses that sign up.
