The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has directed Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk, to immediately stop operations in the country.

CRAN says Starlink is operating without the required telecommunications license.

What They’re Saying

“The public is hereby advised not to purchase Starlink terminal equipment or subscribe to its services, as such activities are illegal,” CRAN said in an emailed statement.

Investigators have confiscated illegal terminals and opened criminal cases with the police.

Starlink has applied for a telecommunications license, but CRAN says it is still under review. Until approval is granted, importing and using Starlink equipment is against the law.
