The National Football League (NFL) announced today that the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles have been granted marketing rights through the Global Markets Program to Nigeria and Ghana respectively.
Details
The Global Markets Program (GMP), first launched in 2022, awards NFL clubs international marketing rights to build brand awareness and fandom beyond the U.S., through fan engagement, events, and commercial opportunities, consistent with their home markets.
Digging Deeper
As part of the Global Markets Program, clubs have access to international markets for at least a five-year term, during which a club will have rights to pursue activities in that international market that are consistent with what they can do in their domestic market.
Why This Matters
The NFL’s interest in Africa stems from several strategic goals and opportunities including expanding its global reach and engaging with the growing number of football fans in Africa and providing a route for international athletes to play in the NFL
The NFL filmed its most recent Superbowl ad in Accra this year.
