Rumor Mill: Plans Underway For MTN To Buy MultiChoice Africa

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 1 Min Read

According to sources at MyBroadband, the mobile network operator MTN, is currently in discussions to buy MultiChoice Africa.

MultiChoice Africa provides different entertainment and TV services to African subscribers including Ghana. One of its most widely used products is DSTV.

MTN has already been in discussions with MultiChoice about the provision of services on smartphones and now seems to have shifted to a total acquisition of the company.

Upcoming Competition

DSTV, one of the products that MultiChoice offers, has been seeing some competition from streaming services like Netflix and Kwesé TV as well as a host of new comers which have come into the market.

This could all be a rumor but if this deal goes through, it could be interested to see how MTN decides to use MultiChoice in its operations. Perhaps subscription services for MTN users to watch TV on the data with less data?

MTN has yet confirm if a deal with MultiChoice is in the works.
