Prince Owusu Wins 2021 MTN Ayoba Hackathon

This year has been competitive for young App developers in Ghana at the MTN Ayoba Hackaton 2021. The competition which started with 270 applicants finally ended with Prince Owusu as the ultimate winner. The young developer created the ‘Academy’ app with sustainable growth for the educational industry.

On 16th September 2021, the MTN Ayoba Hackathon awarded 3 top apps out of the 5 finalists. The MTN Ayoba Super App is a platform that hosts micro apps which leverage on MTN database to reach to a wider targeted audience.

In the competition, participants were assigned to mentors and coaches for grooming before the presentation. Developers aimed at winning cash prizes and souvenirs to support their apps.

These are the winners for the MTN Ayoba Hackaton 2021:

  • Prince Owusu (Academy app) – Winner – GHS 20,000 cash prize + Certificate + Souvenirs
  • Amaylia app – 1st runner up – GHS 10,000 cash prize + Certificate + Souvenirs
  • Stride app – 2nd runner up – GHS 8,000 cash prize + Certificate + Souvenirs

In his closing remarks, Dario Bianche (Digital Transformation lead of MTN Ghana) expressed his support to the education system which coincidentally meets the vision of the winner in the competition. The aftermath of the competition looks promising as the winner would be closely working with MTN Ghana to promote sustainable growth in Ghana’s education sector.

All other participants were awarded certificates, some souvenirs, and an opportunity for their apps to be featured on the Ayoba Super App. The winners shared gratitude to MTN Ayoba Hackaton for the opportunity, support, and exposure to present his app idea to the world.
