Remote Tools To Consider When Working From Home

It’s been confirmed that two individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus in Ghana.

Most major companies in the world are advising their staff to work from home to protect themselves from the virus.

It can be a bit tricky if it’s your first time working from home.

We’ve compiled a list of tools that you should consider if you and your team are trying to catch up to work and be progressive at home.

Realtime Team Communication Tools

Teams will need to communicate with each other projects while working from home and will need some tools to get the job when it comes to messaging:

Slack

Slack is an instant messaging platform which allows users to have chat rooms (channels) organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging. Slack also allows users to share documents include word documents and PDFs as well as pictures.

Slack is available of Desktop and mobile (iOS and Android).

Microsoft Team

Microsoft Teams is a tool similar to Slack that combines realtime chat, video meetings, and file storage.

Teams also allow video and audio calls between team members as well sharing of documents and pictures.


Group Meetings

Even though messaging is a great way to communicate, audio and video adds a better layer to communicate with team members on completing projects and assignments. The tools below help with group meetings and conferencing:

Zoom

Zoom is a video and audio conferencing software which allows up to 500 video participants in one conference call.

It’s a great tool for both video and audio conference with multiple team members. It works on both desktop and mobile.

Skype

Skype is basically a veteran software in the video conferencing space. The software is great for audio, video and text messaging.


File/Document Sharing

Teams may sometimes need to work on documents. With remote working, different team members may need to work on one or more documents at the same time. The tools below can help accomplish that:

Dropbox

Dropbox is an online software tool that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and personal cloud features for users. It has version control feature where teams see when a document has been updated and by which team member.

Google Drive

Most people will be familiar with Google Drive. It allows users to share files and edit online with other users.

OneDrive

Onedrive is an offering from Microsoft which offers similar services to Google Drive and Dropbox. You can sync files and documents online.


Project Management

Projects still need to be properly managed and organised while working from home. These project management tools can help with that.

Most of these project management tools have costs associated with team accounts but you can still get a free trial with limited features especially if you have a small team.

Notion

Notion is is a collaboration which is capable of being an all-in-one workspace for note-taking, knowledge and data management, project and task management.

You can manage projects, create wikis, track projects and even manage documents.

Notion can work both offline and online and is available on desktop and mobile.

Monday

Monday is a web and mobile app platform for work management, including tracking projects, deadlines, and team collaboration.

It’s great for teams who are managing projects and can be great for remote teams.

Basecamp

Basecamp is a web-based project management tool which has features including to-do lists, milestone management, forum-like messaging, file sharing, and time tracking.
