Ride-hailing platform SafeBoda has announced that it’s resuming operations in Kenya more than a year after leaving the market.

The company stated that it would resume its services in Kenya on February 10th, 2024.

Background

SafeBoda launched in Kenya in 2018 and had a community of users and business value chain which extended to more than 4000 riders in Nairobi. In November 2020, it however exited the market saying the coronavirus pandemic has had a significant effect on its business.

While Nairobi is seeing some economic recovery from COVID-19, boda transportation has been hit hard. This has meant our business cannot sustainably operate in this environment and unfortunately, the timeline for a full recovery cannot be certain,” it added.

What Happens Next

The startup said it would focus on growing its operations in Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria.
