#SMWiAccra Speaker Spotlight: Mic Fox

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 2 Min Read

Mic Fox is currently Director of Digital for Emmis Communications New York home of the global hip hop entity HOT 97 (featuring Ebro, Funk Flex and more), New York’s premiere R&B radio station WBLS 107.5 and an influential digital audience across multiple platforms (1.6mm Youtube, 1.6mm Facebook, 670k Instagram, and more).

Mic’s career began as early as high school when his passion for music resulted in becoming a local high school club DJ. During his college years, while studying Computer Information and Sciences, he volunteered his time at the university radio station. Mic eventually took a leap a faith and entered into the world of radio broadcasting as a high-profile on-air personality in cities such as New Orleans, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York.

His experience and leadership led to various management positions and launching two major market properties. After a successful “career” in radio, Mic transitioned into executive marketing and promotion roles working at labels such as Atlantic Records, Island Def Jam, and TVT Records marketing global artists such as Kanye West, Ludacris, Pitbull, and many more. His love for the “everything digital” led him to join a corporate digital division for Universal Music Group whose initial team of 12 created what is now known as the music video platform Vevo. Mic’s “finger prints” were embedded in many aspects of Vevo from the global digital strategy to help craft and execute one of SXSW’s biggest live concert events in 2011 starring Kanye West and Jay-Z before the release of “The Throne”.

Mic is a IoT + digital nerd, consumer marketer, music connoisseur, and thrill seeker. He has been able to combine music, digital, and marketing into a successful life long career.

Mic Fox will be speaking at the Future Of Media event at Silver Lounge (Silverbird) on Wednesday, 13th September during Social Media Week Accra. Check out smwiaccra.com for more details.
