On Friday 16th March, Tech Nova was invited for a breakfast roundtable discussion with Standard Chartered Bank. The discussion was about the future of digital banking in Ghana.
Standard Chartered has been investing in the digital space, especially digital and online banking. This investment has paid off with the bank winning multiple awards globally for their efforts.
At the meeting, the global head of Digital Banking, Aalishaan Zaidi, explained the possibilities of going digital and opened up discussions to the participants at the breakfast meeting. Participants at the discussion included representatives from ZeePay, MTN, AirtelTigo and ExpressPay, who all gave their points on how Standard Chartered and the Central Bank can help to make the digital payment space better.
Also at the meeting was Archie Hesse, CEO of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GHIPSS), discussed how the central bank was working on a framework for making digital payments easier in Ghana.
Other topics at the discussion included cryptocurrency and its regulation, cybersecurity and pure digital banking. Recently, Standard Chartered opened up a pure digital banking app in Cote D’Ivoire, where users simply download the Standard Chartered mobile and do all their banking transactions via the application without having to visit a branch.
