From July 1st 2022, the Ghana Card will be the only form of identification accepted at financial institutions in Ghana.
This was outlined by the Bank of Ghana in a press release. Users will have to present their Ghana cards at the following institutions to receive service:
- Banks;
- Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions;
- Non-Deposit-Taking Financial Institutions;
- Payment Service Providers and Dedicated Electronic Money Issuers;
- Forex Bureaus and Credit Reference Bureaus
This measure is put in place by the Bank of Ghana For “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes as the Ghana Card will be integrated into the National Identification Authority verification transaction platform as well as Bank of Ghana’s financial monitoring platform. The monitoring will include but not be limited to transactions by:
- Banks;
- Non-bank Financial Institutions; and
- Mobile Money Operators (MMOs)
