This is What Instagram’s Twitter Text-Based Competitor Looks Like

In a leak by a reporter, we have some more details on what Instagram’s text-based Twitter competitor will look like

The details

Lia Haberman shared a leaked marketing slide in her substack about the new app.

The slide stated describes the app as “Instagram’s new text-based app for conversations”.

Users will be able to sign in with their Instagram username and password, and your followers, handle, bio, and verification will transfer over from the main app.

How The App Works

In the app, there will be a feed and users can make text posts up to 500 characters long with attached links, photos, and videos. It looks like a combination of Instagram and Twitter.

The Bigger Picture

The new app will focus on decentralization and Instagram states that it would be compatible with other apps like Mastodon, meaning users on other decentralised platforms will be able to search and interact with each other.

What They’re Saying

Meta had previously provided a statement saying “We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”
