Ericsson is supporting Tunisie Telecom in launching 5G in Tunisia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s telecom evolution.
The rollout includes 5G eMBB (enhanced Mobile Broadband) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services for residential customers.
Why it matters
Tunisie Telecom’s 5G launch makes it the first operator to introduce the technology in both Tunisia and North Africa, meeting the deadlines set by the Tunisian Ministry of ICT.
Driving the news
- The 5G deployment uses Time Division Duplexing (TDD) sites on the 3.5 GHz frequency band and repurposed 4G spectrum (FDD) in the 2100 and 1800 MHz frequencies.
- Ericsson reports that high-speed 5G TDD sites have achieved download speeds of 2.1 Gbit/s.
- This is the first time this frequency band has been used in Tunisia, allowing for wider spectrum availability and faster connectivity.
What they’re saying:
“Ericsson worked with Tunisie Telecom to ensure a successful 5G launch despite a tight schedule and complex network architecture,” said Tahar Labidi, senior account manager at Ericsson.
“With Ericsson, Tunisie Telecom has successfully launched 5G in Tunisia and North Africa within the set timeframe,” said Oussama Samet, central director of Networks at Tunisie Telecom. “We’re counting on Ericsson for the next stages of deployment, use case development, and monetization.”
