Twitter Layoffs Hit African Staff

1 Min Read

On Friday morning, Twitter began mass layoffs on its team. Elon Musk, who completed the acquisition last week, had planned to cut down Twitter’s workforce by 50%.

Today, the layoffs began as employees got their layoff notices via email. It appears that the Twitter African team also felt the effect of the layoffs.

According to a tweet by Bernard Kafui Sokpe (Twitter’s Senior Partner Manager for Africa), he has been laid off as well.

It seems that other staff on the Twitter African team got affected as well.

According to TheVerge, the areas of Twitter impacted the most by Musk’s cuts include its product trust and safety, policy, communications, tweet curation, ethical AI, data science, research, machine learning, social good, accessibility, and even certain core engineering teams, according to tweets by laid off employees and people familiar with the matter.
