Twitter To Re-introduce $8 Twitter Blue Subscription With Phone Number Verification

One month after scrapping a ‘disastrous’ initial launch that sparked spoof accounts and general chaos, Twitter intends to relaunch its Blue membership service today

As reported earlier, the Blue membership subscription will cost $8 per month to purchase on the web or $11 per month via the iOS App Store to make up for the up to 30 percent commission Apple takes off of in-app purchases.

However, this time round, anyone paying for Blue who wants to display a “verified” checkmark on their profile will need to register a phone number first, and changing their “handle, display name or profile photo” will remove the label until your account is reviewed

According to a thread on Twitter, subscribers will also get access to reader mode, the option to upload 1080p videos, the opportunity to edit tweets and the blue profile checkmark in addition to other perks. Less advertising and reply priority are listed by the corporation as “Coming Soon.”

Additionally, Twitter says it will substitute a gold checkmark for businesses for the “official” label it dabbled with during the previous Blue push before adding a gray marking for “government and multilateral accounts” later this week.

Product Manager at Twitter, Esther Crawford, disclosed that the intention of twitter to add a phone number verification before users are granted a blue checkmark was to prevent issues of impersonation.

Last month Elon Musk launched his version of the Twitter Blue feature, but he pulled down the feature after two days because a lot of parody and fake accounts flooded the platform. This further raised a lot of concerns form advertisers and government officials
