Uber Prepares To Roll Out A Mobile Money Payment Option

When Uber launched in Ghana, they launched with not only a Credit/Debit card payment option, but also with a Cash option.

This has led to Uber being widely successful in Accra as most users prefer using cash for payment as opposed to using their ATM or VISA cards.

But now, Uber appears to be gearing up to add another payment option to their app: Mobile Money.

According to Alon Litts, the company’s general manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Uber is working with telecommunication companies like MTN and Vodafone to roll out an Uber mobile money platform which would allow riders to pay for their trips with mobile money.

Mobile Money is growing in popularity among Ghanaians as most prefer that option as opposed to credit and ATM cards.

Mr Litts did not state a timeline when Uber would roll out the new system but sources say it’s in the works.
