Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will officially launch the mobile money interoperability system next week.

With mobile money interoperability, users will be able to send mobile money from one mobile phone network to another. That means an MTN Mobile Money user and a Vodafone Cash customer can send money to each other with no restrictions.

The system was put in place by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) in collaboration with the Telcos and Banks.

The CEO of GhIPSS, Archie Hesse said the first phase which is the mobile money interoperability will go live next week Thursday, the 10th of May, while the other two legs of the financial inclusion triangle will follow. The next phase will allow movement of funds from bank accounts to mobile money wallet and to e-zwich cards.
