What Happened To Ghana’s COVID19 Vaccine App?

1 Min Read

In March, the Ghana Health Service stated that it was working on a locally developed mobile COVID-19 vaccination app to help with the booking of appointments for users to get their vaccinations.

At the time, the app was said to be in its testing phase but there were no further updates on when it would be released to the public.

Four months on and there haven’t been any signs of the app.

Vaccine Rollout Setback

There has been a slow rollout of vaccines in Ghana. Ghana has set a target of vaccinating 20 million people by the end of 2021. The country initially received 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca and later received donations from the MTN Group and the Indian government.

Currently, Ghana has vaccinated 1.27 million people with 400,000 receiving two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Ghana has reported received 177,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine this month and is currently preparing to distribute to vaccine centers.

The Ghana Health Service hasn’t stated how the vaccines will be distributed to the public. With the vaccine app still not available, it may look like it might be a “first come, first serve” affair.
