What Is Going On With The Glo Network In Ghana?

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 1 Min Read

In a press release today, Glo Communications stated they were partnering with AirtelTigo which would be a “National Roaming” arrangement for voice, data, and SMS services.

All Glo customers will be transferred to AirtelTigo’s network on 23rd April.

What This Means

A national roaming agreement basically means that Glo customers will be on the AirtelTigo network. In many ways, it sounds like Glo might be transitioning to become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). An MVNO basically means that a provider does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which it provides services to its customers.

Glo currently has over 300,000 subscribers and hasn’t really captured as much marketshare in Ghana.

By signing an agreement with AirtelTigo for voice, SMS, and data, it sounds like Glo might be getting ready to exit the market.

This is just speculation from our part but we’ll keep a eye close on further developements.
