Slowly but surely, Uber is getting more competition in Ghana in the ride-sharing space.
The new competitor in the ride-sharing space in Ghana goes by the name of Yenko Taxi. Yenko Taxi was developed by Yenko Transport Limited, a Ghanaian company. Their aim is to provide easier, more comfortable and safer taxi rides to Ghanaians.
Yenko recruits mostly drivers in the taxi business. Yenko is similar to the Uber model, whereas users can request pick up from nearby taxis and also set their destinations through the app. Users can rate taxi drivers after their trips and make payments with mobile money, credit/debit card or cash.
Unlike Uber which takes 25% of driver’s earnings, Yenko takes only 20%.
It should be interesting to see if this model will work with taxi drivers. Given the reports that some Uber drivers have trouble reading Google Maps and such, one wonders what training Yenko would give taxi drivers
