Yielding Accomplished African Women (YAAW) held its first annual “Our Girls, Our Future” Graduation Ceremony at Villa Monticello on Saturday 21st July 2018 for their 2018 cohorts.
YAAW is a registered 501c3 in the United States. Even though they are less than a year old, they have been able to partner with the likes of Bank of America, Google, MTV, and Code Avengers.
In less than 6 weeks, they have been able to put 50% of their cohorts in internships and fellowships in Ghana. Also after their job shadowing weeks at firms such as Microsoft and Royal Bank, 100% were given externship or internship offers.
The keynote speech at the event was delivered by Mrs Lucy Quist, CEO of Quist Blue Diamond, and co-founder of Executive Women Network in Ghana. She spoke about what it means to define success for oneself as a young African woman and the importance of using one’s privilege to make an impact.
Nana Chambers, CEO and Founder of Polish’d Beauty Bar spoke about about the importance of women being at the forefront of innovation. She urged the students to always find ways to disrupt the industries that they find themselves in.
