Ghana Tech Lab To Incubate 28 Artificial Intelligence Startup Ideas

World Bank-funded mlab, Ghana Tech lab, is going to enroll 28 artificial intelligence startup ideas selected across the country in its free AI incubator program.

The mission of this incubator program is to help drive artificial intelligence innovation in Ghana by aiding innovative AI startup ideas with tangible resources, expert and competent coaching and giving young entrepreneurs the real chance to succeed.

The GTL incubator is under the 2nd cohort of the mlab’s Base program. The Base program is a flagship program by Ghana Tech Lab under the e-Transform project of the Ministry of Communications aimed at giving opportunities to youths and affording them with a full scope of what it takes to start up a business and carry it to the next level.

Prior to this incubation, a 6 weeks artificial intelligence training program was organized by Ghana Tech Lab in collaboration with its partner hubs across the country. This was to equip participants with the needed skills for an AI startup development.

In all, 300 young and passionate innovators partook in this bootcamp of which 104 representing 35% of the participants were females.

A local Hackathon was organized across the country which gave these young entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ideas in teams to competent business and technical experts.

In the end, 56 promising entrepreneurs were adjudged as having the deserving AI startup ideas to move into the GTL incubator program. These 56 young entrepreneurs were in teams of two, making 28 teams in all.

For ten weeks, the 28 selected AI startups teams will be provided with coaching opportunities from industry experts, full mentorship, exposure to industry events and seed funding to help develop their ideas into feasible tech startups.

In collaboration with partner hubs across the country, these selected incubatees will be taken through a simultaneous timeline of business and technical training sessions during this incubation bootcamp.

Incubation ToT to equip incubation team leads of GTL partner hubs

The two sessions will focus on business and technical development topics aimed at exposing these startups to market strategies and building an innovative technical structure for their ideas to be feasible.

The incubation program is from the 24th of September and will end on the 29th of November, 2019.
