Andy Rubin is regarded as the father of Android. He is responsible for developing Android, and since leaving Google, has been at work on developing a new Android phone. Finally, his new phone was been revealed and is dubbed the “Essential Phone”.
Essential is Andy Rubin’s company and today, it unveiled its first smartphone alongside a new operating system called “Ambient”.
The images featured are renders but they do show what the phone will look like in its final version.
Essential Specifications
The phone will feature an edge-to-edge screen with a tiny bezel. The screen is a blend of titanium and ceramic which the company Essential says, makes it stronger than Apple and Samsung phones.
The device will feature a Qualcomm 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of on-device storage.
The front-facing camera has an 8-megapixel sensor. The rear camera has a 13-megapixel with a second monochrome sensor to help boost low-light shots and is capable of recording 4K video.
The device is said to include a 360 degree camera that can be attached to the device.
Interestingly enough, this device will not ship with a headphone jack (!). It will come with a dongle to enable use of headsets though.
Pricing and Ambient OS
The device will reportedly ship with a $699 price tag.
Not much word on the Ambient OS that’s in the new phone but The Verge details that it can power its Home device like speakers.
