Looks like everybody wants to be Snapchat these days.
Microsoft acquired Skype almost six years and has put it through different changes including design changes. Microsoft has been facing challenges from other messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger which all have the ability to make video calls on the cheap.
Today, Microsoft announced that they were unveiling a new design for Skype.
The New Skype
Microsoft says that new Skype will focus on messaging. The new design includes three sections in a conversation. Find, Chat, and Capture.
The Find feature lets you search through a conversation, or find image, and has add-ins like YouTube or Giphy to add gifs into a message.
Chat is exactly what you expect.
Finally, the Capture feature is something that you would see in Snapchat.
When a user goes into the Capture section, the app launches into the camera to take pictures or video. Once you’ve captured a video or picture. a user can then add stickers, text, just like Snapchat.
That’s the not the only thing that the new Skype “borrows” from Snapchat. There is also a highlight feature which resembles Snapchat stories. It lets users post a stream of photos and videos that friends can view and react with emoticons.

Android First
Microsoft is planning to roll out the new Skype to Android users first before rolling out to iOS users. Afterwards, Windows and Mac users should be seeing updates for the new Skype.
When the update is available, we will review the new Skype and post a review on Tech Nova. Stay tuned.
